About the Turks and Caicos Government
Presently the Turks & Caicos Islands are under direct rule by the UK's Foreign Commonwealth Office and run by an appointed Governor, HE Gordon Wetherell.
Following an extensive Commission of Inquiry in early 2009 and the delivery of its Final Report, the UK FCO made a series of decisions with regard to the Constitution and Ministerial Government that had been in place. In addition, a special prosecutor has been appointed along with a senior investigator to work on the criminal and civil investigations recommended in the Commission of Inquiry report.
The new constitutional arrangements will last for two years, although this period can be shortened or lengthened if necessary. The Governor and the UK Government are committed to holding free and fair elections by July 2011, if not sooner. The House of Assembly and ministerial government would be restored, possibly under new constitutional arrangements.
