Here is some information about our Islands that
will be useful during your stay:
• Eastern Standard Time/Daylight Savings Time is observed.
• The US Dollar is the currency used. Travellers cheques in US dollars
are widely accepted. Mastercard, Visa and American Express are welcomed.
• Casual resort and leisure wear is accepted attire for daytime as the
average year round temperature is about 83 degrees F. The warmest months are
September and October when temperatures can reach to 95 degrees F.
• There are no endemic tropical diseases in TCI. There are general practitioners
and a government clinic in Providenciales and a small hospital in Grand Turk. State-of-the-art hospitals are now under construction and will
be complete in 2010. In the meantime, in the case of a serious medical emergency,
patients are
flown to full service hospitals in Miami or Nassau by air ambulance.
• The electricity used in TCI is 120/240 volts, 60Hz suitable for all
US appliances.
• Communication services in TCI are excellent.
Worldwide direct dialing, telex, facsimile, toll-free 1 800, cellular and internet
services are available. North American visitors who bring TDMA or GSM handsets and have an overseas roaming
agreement with their cellular providers can use their cell phones in the Islands
with calls billed to the home account.
• A valid driver's license from home country is suitable when renting
vehicles.
• In TCI, we drive on left hand side of the road, and we have round-abouts
at the major junctions.
• It takes great attention when first driving in the islands. Taxis are
available.
There is a regular shuttle bus service between popular areas.
• A passport is required or a valid onward or return ticket.
• The crime rate in TCI is low, but it is necessary to be vigilant about
petty theft.
It is best not leave any bags or cameras etc unattended.
• Some available activities are snorkeling, scuba diving, ocean fishing,
visits to the sister islands and golfing.
• Our world renowned beaches are beautiful for long, enjoyable walks.
• Excellent restaurants are available all over Providenciales, with conch
a specialty on many menus.
• There are very good shops in the tourist area and a multi-theatre cinema
showing newly released feature films offers matinees and evening shows.
